So today I've been able to try the Golden acrylic ground for pastels. Golden Acrylic ground for pastelsOr at least coat some boards that is. It comes very thick and can't be applied straight to the substrate it has to be diluted with water. I believe you can also add some acrylic colour to it as well but I'm not brave enough to try that yet! I'd read this stuff lasts for ever and I think you probably will get your money's worth. It's gloopy and unguent and pale grey... Golden Acrylic ground for pastels   So I took two heaped dessert spoons full and mixed them in a dish with about two of the same spoons of water. It says dilute with up to 40% water, but I just guessed and it seemed a good consistency. I used a brush to coat a 25 cm x 20 cm board and the area I want to work on with pastels on another piece, which is rather larger. Golden Acrylic ground for pastels I had so much left I coated another 35 cm x 25 cm board and had enough left to probably cover another small area. Golden Acrylic ground for pastels The medium is very, very slightly, and I mean slightly, self leveling. I used a medium sized brush and it seemed quite even. I will add I tried a brayer and that made a very rough finish so I leveled it off again with the brush. I would say it's taken about 30 mins or so to be touch dry so would be even quicker with a heat gun.
