I'm really pleased to be back at the 52 week art journal project again. I didn't last very long last time I have to admit! I love making art journals out of old books. It's easier somehow to begin a spread when you can see words ad pictures showing underneath the gesso. When it's somehow messy already. My new art journal is made from an old Good Housekeeping Encyclopedia and has some interesting line drawings on many of the pages. Disconcertingly it's as old as me! I loved making the cover on heavy mixed media paper, with very wet watercolour sprinkled with salt. The salt leaves such a satisfying texture I find, even when it's gently brushed off. I keep picking it up to have a little touch! So here's to the first of many art journal spreads in this heavy old book that has been given new life.
